Expedition Balance Update

Developer Notes

This update comes after a lot of playtesting, number shifting, UI work, and a few bugs that fought back harder than some Expedition enemies. I am still learning as I build Veyrune, but every pass makes the game a little sharper.

The goal of this patch is to make Expeditions harder at baseline, smoother at high depth, less reward-heavy, and less dependent on one dominant path.

Expedition Changes

Modifier Cap Added

Expeditions now have a maximum of 4 active modifiers per run. Once 4 modifiers are active, new modifier choice events no longer appear.

Temporary Max Health Loss

Expedition effects that reduce max health now apply as temporary Expedition health loss instead of permanently reducing the character's base max health.

Enemy Balance

  • Enemy depth scaling increased from 10% to 12% per depth.
  • Duskwood, Iron Peaks, Voidlands, and Abyssal Depths enemies received HP and attack increases.
  • Enemy defense now reduces normal hits, double hits, and Thorns Aura retaliation.
  • Bleed and status damage still bypass enemy defense.

Expedition Route Changes

  • Dangerous Route gold reward reduced from 100 to 85.

Modifier Balance

Blood Trial Bleed multiplier 1.75 to 1.35. Enemy health 1.25 to 1.30.
Glass Legion Enemy health 0.45 to 0.60. Enemy damage 2.5 to 2.0.
Titanic Enemy health 3.0 to 2.25.
Frenzied Depths Enemy speed scaling softened from 0.95 to 0.97.
Blood Pact Player damage per depth 0.08 to 0.05.
Momentum Player damage per depth 0.08 to 0.04.
Adrenaline Low-health damage 2.0 to 1.5. Attack interval multiplier 0.6 to 0.75.
Golden Veins Gold multiplier 3.0 to 1.75.
Corruption Player and enemy damage per depth 0.10 to 0.06.
Fragile Riches Gold multiplier 3.0 to 2.0.
Blood Moon Player and enemy damage multiplier 2.5 to 2.0.

Rune Balance

  • Heavy Strike damage multiplier reduced from 1.5 to 1.4.
  • Thorns Aura health damage multiplier increased from 0.035 to 0.045.
  • Ember Chain damage multiplier reduced from 1.1 to 1.0.
  • Static Orbit damage multiplier reduced from 0.7 to 0.55.
  • Storm Spear damage multiplier reduced from 1.7 to 1.5.

Support Rune Balance

  • Bleed Support max stacks reduced from 5 to 4.
  • Brutality Support damage multiplier reduced from 1.45 to 1.35.
  • Frenzy Support extra hit chance reduced from 0.35 to 0.30.
  • Vampiric Support heal amount reduced from 3 to 2.
  • Barbed Hide health damage bonus reduced from 0.015 to 0.012.
  • Heavy Spines thorn damage multiplier reduced from 1.5 to 1.35.
  • Future support runes were pre-tuned before implementation.

Gear Rewards

  • Base gear drop chance reduced from 20% to 15%.
  • Depth bonus cap reduced from 20% to 15%.
  • Dangerous Route gear bonus reduced from 10% to 5%.
